Football is back!   I was happy somebody finally spoke out about Sean Payton Fox Sports’ Terry Bradshaw was visibly shaken after ranting on tv on Sunday how crappy it is the coach of the New Orleans Saints is banned for a year from coaching. It is a tad extreme if you ask me.  And I kind of thought it would energize the team, but not yesterday. Sigh….Stone Sour is filming a video for “Gone Sovereign” and “Absolute Zero” on Sep 26.  The songs are tracks 1 and 2 off their forthcoming House of Gold & Bones-Part 1. I guess that means guitarist Jim Root‘s appendix surgery must be  on the 27th.   And it’s apparently the reason you won’t be seeing Stone Sour on some of their upcoming scheduled shows.  But there is a Plan B, so stay tuned! And wonderers are wondering, will Rachel Bolan (Skid Row bassist  who played on the album)  be on the road with them when they finally do head out. Stay tuned….tool frontman Maynard James Keenan is adding columnist to his other duties as musician, producer, cabaret performer and winemaker. According to Loudwire, Keenan will begin writing a bi-weekly column for “Up On The Sun,” the music blog of the Phoenix New Times, beginning on today (Sep 10th). The site says that Keenan’s column “will feature his freewheeling examinations on whatever he feels like writing about, including music, wine, and . . . well, you’ll see.” Meanwhile, harvest season is coming for his grapes in the Arizona valley where he and Eric Glomski have their vineyards for Caduceus and Arizona Stonghold wineries.  I have tasted these fine wines and they are delicious! Good luck to Maynard on this new side venture.  I am sure his rantings, I mean, writings, will be entertaining. Turning to tool, we understand the band is working on music. I mean, they must  be getting bored!  The last album was in 2006!..Meanwhile, Maynard’s friend & band mate  Billy Howerdel and  A Perfect Circle have one show booked in Las Vegas at Planet Hollywood on Dec. 29th….Green Day announced their tour. See Road Rage….Sober or not? Puddle Of Mudd frontman Wes Scantlin claims he was sober when he tried to purchase one beer on a Jet Blue flight from Boston to Los Angeles that ended with him being thrown off the plane and arrested in Austin, Texas. Initial reports suggested that Scantlin was intoxicated and allegedly became aggressive after the attendant refused to sell him the alcohol, forcing the Los Angeles-bound plane to make an unplanned stop at Bergstrom International Airport in Austin, where Scantlin was arrested.  But Scantlin told TMZ in a video interview that he was both wrongfully arrested and treated roughly by the police, saying, “When a grown man cannot purchase a beer on a five-hour flight from Boston to L.A., then the airlines are completely losing their minds. I was arrested for being sober on an airplane, trying to purchase a beer on Jet Blue.” Well, Wes, note to self, with air marshalls on planes these days, don’t make a scene!…Blabbermouth reports Jack White and Guns N’ Roses are among the acts that will perform at Neil Young‘s 26th annual Bridge School Benefit Concerts, scheduled for October 20th and 21st at Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA outside of San Francisco. Also scheduled to appear are Young and his band Crazy Horse, Foster The People, the Flaming Lips, Sarah McLachlan, Lucinda Williams, Steve Martin, K.D. Lang and Gary Clark Jr. The Bridge School, co-founded by Young’s wife Pegi, works to help people with physical and speech impairments through alternate methods of communication, including music therapy. Each year, Young, who has two handicapped sons, gathers a cross-section of performers to perform acoustically to benefit the school. Tickets, priced from $35 to $150, go on sale on Friday (Sep 14th) at 10 a.m. through, by calling (800) 745-3000 and at the Shoreline Amphi box office….Blabbermouth also reports Sevendust entered a studio in Butler, NJ  a few days ago to begin recording its ninth studio album for an early 2013 release. The disc follows 2010′s Cold Day Memory as well as a longer than usual break during which four of the band’s five members launched two new side projects called Projected and Call Me No One. The former’s debut arrives on Sep 18th, while the latter released its first album in June. Sevendust has already posted footage of the early sessions online. Hmm, wonder if they’ll join us on Wed night to see Tremonti at the Highline Ballroom here in NYC!  I know Jay Prevost of Middletown, NJ is coming with a guest!  He won the Highline Ballroom tix and will be hanging with us in the balcony! Meanwhile, check out this new app called VIVOgig.  It’s a new file sharing service where you can easily upload pix you take at shows. Looks cool too! Check it out here…I am excited about this, as I wanted to be there for the show.  I know Lou Brutus was there!  Industry sources are saying a Led Zeppelin double-CD / double-DVD of their 2007 reunion show in London will be released in Nov and titled, Led Zeppelin: Live At London’s O2 Arena. On Friday (Sep 7th), the band posted “hello” on it’s Facebook page, followed on Saturday by “Five” in the band’s classic font, followed on Sunday by “Four” — leading some fans to believe an official announcement is coming on Wednesday (Sep 12th).  Sorry if I’m the spoilsport!…Happy 62nd today to Joe Perry of Aerosmith! And Happy 47th to Bush drummer Robin Goodridge.

What’s with that woman who keeps wanting to swim from Cuba to Florida?  Really?  Sharks, jellyfish & lightning storms?  Swim across a Great Lake!  It’s a lot easier!…Lzzy Hale emailed me the cellphone video of the duet she did  Saturday night in El Paso with Amy Lee of Evanescence!   It was during the Halestorm song “Break In” when Lzzy performs the song by herself on piano. She said  in a Twitter post El Paso tonight was the first night I’ve ever had a duet with a woman. Amy Lee rocked it with me on ‘Break In’! Love her!“   Lee responded, “I loved singing with you. Your voice shreds and that is my SONG right now! Thanks for letting me ‘Break In’ on your set tonight .”  Hale tweeted back, “The pleasure was all mine! It was so beautiful! You rule, babe! I’m so grateful for your friendship. You brought new life to ‘Break In.’”  Lzzy had told me they had rehearsed the song a few times, but wasn’t sure when it was going to happen!  Who knows what could come of it! Check them out on the Carnival of Madness tour, on now!….Three Days Grace announced their tour in support of their forthcoming album Transit of Venus, out Oct 02.  The rare club tour  for this band kicks off Oct 08 in Dallas, TX @ Trees and ends on Oct 28 in Nashville @ Exit/In.  See all the dates in Road Rage.  I have Adam Gontier on the hotLine on Friday!  Looking forward….Lou Brutus talked to Benny Horowitz of Gaslight Anthem over the weekend.  The band is in Europe on tour now.  I’m interested in seeing them live when they return to the states!….Did they or didn’t they? Attorneys for Pizza Hut and Home Depot have denied using the music of the Black Keys in commercials without the band’s permission, according to the Associated Press. The duo launched copyright infringement lawsuits against both corporations in June, claiming that Home Depot did not have permission to use elements of their song “Lonely Boy” in an ad for power tools, while also alleging that Pizza Hut misused their latest single, “Gold On The Ceiling,” in a recent commercial. The companies separately denied the allegations in court documents filed last week in Los Angeles….This is nutty! Pulse of Radio reports Green Day is getting its own episode of the massively popular Facebook-based game Angry Birds Friends, according to the band’s publicist. The collaboration, the first with a band by Angry Birds publisher Rovio Entertainment, will feature 10 new themed levels as well as all-new pig characters featuring the likenesses of band members Billie Joe Armstrong, Tre Cool and Mike Dirnt. The episode will also include the new Green Day single, “Oh Love,” as well as an exclusive new track called “Troublemaker.” Armstrong said, “We’re all fans of Angry Birds. It’s such an addictive game that when we first started playing it we couldn’t stop.” The episode will arrive sometime this fall, along with more exclusive content Angry Birds is the Number One most paid for app EV-ER! I know, I am addicted!  Trying to finish every game in every level…Loudwire reports  Seether has marked the 10-year anniversary of the release of the band’s debut album, Disclaimer, by issuing a previously unreleased video for the song “Sympathetic” from the disc. The band will also release never-before-seen footage and more exclusive content from that era in the weeks to come. Wind-up Records, which initially signed the group, has made the band’s entire catalog available for $7.99 all this week, with all tracks from the Disclaimer and Disclaimer II albums priced at 69 cents for a limited time. Seether will headline the first Rise Above Fest in Gilford, New Hampshire on September 3rd before hitting the road with Sick Puppies and Kyng this fall...Detroit News says Kid Rock helped deliver a free new home to a U.S. Army sergeant and his wife on Saturday (Aug 18th). Rock teamed up with Operation Finally Home, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing mortgage-free homes to wounded and disabled veterans, to present Davin Dumar and his wife, Dana, with a new home in a northern suburb of Detroit. Rock and media representatives were hidden inside a model of the house when the Dumars arrived for what they thought was a normal viewing of a potential purchase. Rock thanked Dumar, who lost a leg in Afghanistan, for his service, with a stunned Dumar replying, “I wasn’t expecting this . . . I love my job and I’d do it all over again if I had to.” Photos of the occasion can be seen at That Remains singer Phil Labonte will appear on the new season of 3-Gun Nation, a show airing Sunday mornings on the NBC Sports Network. Labonte and the series’ host, country singer Mark Wills, will receive training and undergo courses in the use of a rifle, pistol and shotgun as they compete head-to-head in various challenges. Labonte, a staunch gun-rights advocate, recently wrote an op-ed piece for Alternative Press supporting the Second Amendment rights of Americans to bear arms.  Geez, hard to believe we’re only a couple of weeks from Labor Day, a slippery slope to fall and winter after that.  Waaaaah!  OH MAN, I finally finished watching the 4th season of AMC’s “Breaking Bad.”  If you haven’t seen this series and have Netflix,  you will be addicted to it once you start watching from the beginning. Plus, no commercial breaks! :) So now I can start this new season, which is the last one.  What will I do when it’s done? (OK, I know, get a grip)….So much new music out there!   Stone Sour has “Gone Sovereign”/”Absolute Zero” on their site.  Phil Labonte of All That Remains leaked a track from his band’s forthcoming A War You Cannot Win album called “Down Through the Ages,”  and Three Days Grace released “Chaulk Outline”  & lyric video for it from their forthcoming Transit of Venus that’s available digitally today. Drummer Neil Sanderson said about the new disc’s musical direction, “We went for a tighter, more articulated sound on this record. The music we were writing was a little more intricate than in the past, and we’ve been experimenting with new instruments. We wanted to present these new ideas concisely without going over-the-top in ambience and overall production.“  I am trying to schedule Adam Gontier for an interview next week, so stay tuned for that!  Also working on chatting with Benny from Gaslight Anthem.  The band is starting to make some noise out there and are currently over in Europe…..New CD/DVD out today, Staind‘s Live From Mohegan Sun.  We’ll have copies to givewaway soon, so stay tuned!  Meanwhile, get yourself a Blu-Ray of Slipknot‘s “(sic)nesses: Live at Downlad” now right over ont he home page! ….Getting closer to launching the site and it’s looking very cool!  Can’t wait for the tour to start with two warm up shows, Sep 11th in West Greenwich, Rhode Island at Rock Junction and Sep 12th at the Highline Ballroom here in NYC.  Then the official tour starts in Flint, MI at the legendary Machine Shop on Sep 20th!  One of these days I want to get up there just to be a show.  Every band I talk to loves that place!….I updated Slash‘s itinerary in Road Rage! They’ll be out with Foxy Shazam, the most fun band to watch live!…..And finally today, Guns N’ Roses (aka The Axl Rose Band) will launch its first-ever residency on Halloween, Wednesday, Oct 31st when the band plays the first of 12 shows at the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. According to the group’s publicist, the “Appetite For Democracy” run will last through Saturday, Nov 24th, with the band playing a set list exclusively created for these shows.  If you like really cool looking tv crime stories, with impossible twists and turns, with a great cast and camera work that is mind-boggling, I suggest you head to iTunes to find the 2011 and 2012 seasons of The Killing  which aired on AMC.  You will be amazed what a great and overlooked show this was.   We binge watched it the last few weeks and man, I am going through withdrawls.  And the story ended and there is no renewal of the show on the network.  Bummer!…..I talked to Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach and I thought his voice sounded different and come to find out, he admitted in a recent interview  he has been suffering from throat problems, according to  Speaking backstage at a show in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Shaddix admitted, “I went to a vocal specialist. I have what’s called a node that’s forming on my vocal cord, so it’s like a callus on my vocal cord, and so it’s f***ing with my top range of my vocals for the last week, so I’ve actually been pretty bummed out.” He added, “I took some steroids, and that’ll help the swelling and hopefully that’ll help it go away. But if it doesn’t get better, it’s one of those things where you have to get surgery and do the whole thing.” Listen for him on upcoming editions of hardDrive and hardDrive XL  and for their brand new “Still Swingin’” track from their forthcoming album The Connection due Oct 02 And check out a trailer for the song herePulse of Radio reports Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has posted a lengthy tribute letter online to late Deep Purple keyboardist Jon Lord, who passed away on Monday (Jul 16th) at the age of 71 after a long battle with cancer. Ulrich has long acknowledged Purple as the most influential band in his life. Writing at Metallica’s website, Ulrich said, “Ever since my father took me to see them in 1973 in Copenhagen, at the impressionable age of 9, Deep Purple has been the most constant, continuous and inspiring musical presence in my life. They have meant more to me than any other band in existence, and have had an enormous part in shaping who I am. So obviously I’m beyond bummed, saddened and devastated by today’s news of the untimely passing of keyboardist Jon Lord.“  He added, “There simply was no musician like Jon Lord in the history of hard rock. Nobody. Period. There was nobody that played like him. There was nobody that sounded like him. There was nobody that wrote like him. There was nobody that looked like him. There was nobody more articulate, gentlemanly, warm, or f***ing cooler that ever played keyboards or got anywhere near a keyboard.” ….Three Days Grace also have an album coming on Oct 02  called Transit of Venus.   I am hearing a new single will be on the airwaves in mid-August.  I am hoping the band is returning this year to the 48 Hours Festival in Las Vegas in late September.  Line-up should be announced on Monday….Also starting Monday, we have our CARNIVAL OF MADNESS contest coming. So you better be checking the site and make sure to be a registered hardDriveRadio Radical or else!  We’ve got some spectacular contests coming the rest of the year, so if you aren’t registered, you can’t enter! Do this right here on the website….We’re tracking down Chester Bennington from Linkin Park for an interview as hardDrive XL will have him representing his band as Featured Artist of the Week!  Tomorrow, Hoobastank  will be in the hardDrive Studios and Mike Mushok of Staind will be on the hotLine, and yesterday we had John Baizley of Baroness on the hotLine from France!  Be listening for these and more great interviews on the shows!  And special shout out to our listeners!  And thank you for the positive feedback on the Cover It Up special edition!  We always appreciate your response!….Call Me No One, featuring Morgan Rose and Clint Lowery of Sevendust, are hitting the road with Nonpoint.  See Road Rage for the deets…Speaking of Sevendust, the band will enter the studio to begin recording their next album in Sep…Noisecreep  has an update on Randy Blythe of Lamb Of God.  The singer remains incarcerated in Prague since Jun 27th on manslaughter charges, but may be a step closer to getting out on bail. A Czech court dismissed the prosecutor’s efforts to deny the singer bail, but at the same time doubled his bail so that he’ll have to come up with another $200,000 to get out. Blythe recently gave his first interview since being arrested for allegedly causing a fan’s death in 2010. Blythe said he doesn’t recall the incident at all and denies having anything to do with the fan’s death, adding that he is “getting along very well with the other inmates.” Blythe was also encouraged by a visit from his wife, and said he holds no grudges against the city of Prague itself….Happy 37th today to Daron Malakian of System of a Down and Scars on Broadway.  And today, Nelson Mandela turns 94.

Congrats to Slash!  His “Apocalyptic Love” is the Number 4 most purchased album  in the U.S. this week!   Slash has worked really hard to promote this album he’s really proud of.  Meanwhile,  Guns N’ Roses have done it again: the current Axl Rose-led version of the band did not take the stage at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England until after 11:00 p.m. — the actual curfew for the show to end — on Tuesday night (May 29th). The band played its full, three-hour show, but most fans didn’t stick around to see the whole thing. By the end, there were reportedly only 6,000 fans scattered around the 16,000-seat venue. Many fans took to Twitter to voice their anger toward the band one fan called “Goons N’ Losers.”  Love that!  (NME)….Saw this item on  Blabbermouth on why the next Alice in Chains album is taking so damn long!   Here’s an excerpt  from the interview with Jerry Cantrell at Grammy.comCantrell: It’ll depend on when it’s done. We started writing stuff last year. I think we’re all good with that now, so now it’s time to cut it. So we’re gonna try to, but if not, it’ll probably be out early next year. It’ll be out about three or four minutes after we’re finished [laughs]. Give the record company time to set it up and plan the attack and tour for hopefully a year, year and a half. So the writing is pretty much done though?  Cantrell: The thing that set me back is I had some bone spurs [and] cartilage issues in my shoulders. I had the same issue in the other shoulder about six years ago so I’ve had them both done now. It’s a repetitive motion injury from playing. But the repair takes a year [laughs]. So that kind of set us back a little bit, but it takes time anyway — my body started a vacation.  Read the entire interview from… posted a new clip. This time for # 1  Joey Jordison.  Check it out, it’s very cool!
